High Daze 06:24
Momma told me it wouldn't hurt If only for a second The man on TV told me to take it easy For only $9.95 And so I'm calling to let you know The temperature is steady underground and it's not that bad My feet are frozen, let's just take the train Headed south for the winter Our banks are broke we should just rob the liquor store I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind And yet I don't think I'll ever know Exactly why the world should keep turning if we're all gonna die And I'm dying for the booze that'll make me numb My car is faster than a bullet shooting out of a gun I'm melting in a sandstorm wave As the daylight slowly slips away So he can't see what a mess like me has grown to be Momma told you it wouldn't hurt If you just swallowed the pills Your wife has told you to just get another job Another 9 to 5 And so you're calling to let me know The coffin is made out of silk and it's not that bad The weather's warm so you'll just sleep on the porch Wait till it all blows over Your eyes are red you should just take another nap Wait till it all melts away And now you're lying on the kitchen floor With your wife sneaking out of your back door And I'm dying for the booze that'll make me numb My car is faster than a bullet shooting out of a gun I'm melting in a sandstorm wave As the daylight slowly slips away So he can't see what a mess like me has grown to be I can't come down I can't come down And I'm dying for the booze that'll make me numb My car is faster than a bullet shooting out of a gun I'm melting in a sandstorm wave As the daylight slowly slips away So he can't see what a mess like me has grown to be

DMT 04:32
I'm feeling dizzy from this dead limb dance But the guy says I'm fine Feel the carpet under my cheek So why am I in the sky? Well breathe Breath in deeply It's just a trip, man Just a dose of reality Well I've been sucked through the wormhole It's all swirling round in a fish bowl Well I've been sucked through the wormhole Gotta go chase where the dragon goes Shattered apart like a piece of glass And put back together wrong Woke up feeling like a god who opened up And swallowed the sun You'll see You'll see it clearly The best And worst kind of clarity Well breathe Don't forget to breath deeply It's just a trip, man Just a dose of reality Well I've been sucked through the wormhole Gotta go chase where the dragon goes Well I've been sucked through the wormhole It's all swirling round in a fish bowl A plume of smoke A shot at a shot in the cannon A broken mirror A blink before a bursting explosion A rushing road A lightyear with no limitation A quarter hour Then we're back just like that, can we go again? A quarter hour Then we're back just like that, can we go again?

Hey it's fun to transform Blue eyes blazing brighter than the blue skies above Are you in the mood? For dancing barefoot in the desert under that full moon Pinwheel in disguise Feet like firecrackers dragging me to soaring heights Hey do you have a light? Let's get sweet under the glow of those honeycomb nights I'll feel it all till the sun calls me back Maybe God will one day think I deserve a nap But not today Have you got the blues? I can cure you if you let me get an itch in your shoe How about a ride? I'll go anywhere as long as there are things beside All those fluorescent lights They blind me crazy and make me feel like I've lost all my sight For the mountains high I need to chase the bigger things before my end is nigh Licorice in my teeth Born on the string of a kite Loving fiend in the morning and a racing fool in the night I feel it all till the sun calls me back Maybe God will one day think I deserve a nap But not today I wanna feel free The same kind of free From when Adam saw Eve Shake her fist, take a bite, and said let the fires have me From when Adam saw Eve Shake her fist, take a bite, and said let the fires have me Hey it's fun to transform Blue eyes blazing brighter than the blue skies above Are you in the mood? For dancing barefoot in the desert under that full moon Pinwheel in disguise Feet like firecrackers dragging me to soaring heights Hey do you have a light? Let's get sweet under the glow of those honeycomb nights

8,000 Miles 04:00
8,000 miles across the sea It ain't that far for me We could just walk across the ocean Or a flight is a dime a dozen But I'll be there soon Don't you worry Don't you worry We'll cross the beaches under the stars We can keep chasing this sweet sensation Until we're captured by our own home nation We met in golden Rome Just when I was feeling alone Hey cutie, you can be my guide I know we're both pretty shy But we could bring world peace With the way you look at me Maybe we could be king and queen Someday, but either way I am happy crossing country With you in the driver's seat To beaches, city streets And now 8,000 miles across the sea It ain't that far for me

Sunset wide as forgiveness The mountains make me feel a little mad The western madness Hate as thick as the pipeline But all you need is a little evergreen A little evergreen I got the American fever Like a dumb little dreamer Home is where the heart is apparently Even for a splintered fool like me My accent feels like a high crime And loving you is like working overtime Why'd you have to be my type?' I can't purge the bug from my blood stream I feel like a shark caught on a shallow beach Save me from the east I got the American fever Like a dumb little dreamer Home is where the heart is apparently Even for a splintered fool like me I've become a beast of the American street Born to die as a poet of the beat I've become a beat of the American street Born to die as a poem of the beat I got the American fever Like a dumb little dreamer Home is where the heart is apparently Even for a splintered fool like me

I live for the sun Which is searing my wings to ash Twisting like a burning sheet Everything inside of me Reaches for the sun This phantasmagoria is giving me agoraphobia The madness is taking hold for a final bow Is it lying in the spider's web if I can't seem to get out of bed But this journey to infinity Has never seemed so worthy The hunger will take me if I stay And the flames will take me if I go But I would rather be the thing I love Than not be anything at all Either plunging into holy hell or else curling back into my shell I'm a moth drawn to the flame Hurled through space like a hand grenade I'm a moth drawn to the flame Hurled through space like a hand grenade

Firefighter 03:08
Firefighter, give your bad dreams to me It's the least I can do for all that you do for me Civil servant, how do you get through the night? Brave red soldier, will you ever be alright? Is there a participation award for staying alive? Or just a pat on the back and another high five? Are you afraid to die? Are you afraid to die? Are you afraid to die?

Where will you go? What will you do That will be able to keep you Keep you under control? Cause this is how it is And this is how it will be For anyone that's closer Close enough to leave Cause everyone will go And you will have to stay With all these memories that are Stuck inside your lonely brain So you'll sit up in the window With their photo in your lap And think of all the better times That you won't get back That you won't get back And this heartbreak is embarrassing But this sick heart will carry me to the ends of the Earth You couldn't stay to watch You couldn't bear to know That everything you wanted to be Was everything you're not Pay a lot of money to live Spend a lot of liver to die Cause you never found the balance The balance without the high Cause everyone will go And you will have to stay With all these memories that are Stuck inside your lonely brain So you'll sit up in the window With their photo in your lap And think of all the better times That you won't get back That you won't get back And this heartbreak is embarrassing But this sick heart will carry me to the ends of the Earth To the ends of the Earth To the ends of the Earth

Purge yourself silly Purge yourself silly Till your devoid of anything Anything that isn't Anything that isn't Divine and pretty Fill yourself up with Fill yourself up with Anything that ain't your yellow glow Throw up your sunsets Throw up your days Throw up the nights where you never felt this way Cough up your insides Gut all the pride that you ever had Turn all your grief into flimsy self-esteem Yes twist at your core Twist at your core till you find you're nothing more than Your own reflection Your own reflection and your own rejection With not enough art and not enough smarts Not enough weight to help carry the pain Cause you're not grey enough You're not grey enough For this cloudy day You're not weak enough You're not weak enough for Their wicked ways Well I think you're pretty I think you're pretty I think you're pretty I think you're pretty anyway Yes turn all the grey from pain into play Wash away our sins Flush out the burns with sunlight and ferns Till you're a garden again Reflect your yellow with less of this shallow and petty shit I like you with the gold and I liked it when we told them We were good enough Cause I think you're pretty I think you're pretty Yes I think you're pretty I think you're pretty

about

Do you like triumphant piano punches about overcoming self-loathing? Do you adore eerie, cello-laden crooning tunes that sound like they're dripping down the signs of a cavern? Do you love swirling guitar ballads about religious misadventures? How about rock n roll bangers for the modern cowboy? Would you also happen to be fond of My Chemical Romance and Ben E. King banjo cover mashups?

You've come to the right album!

Similarly to my last two albums, every instrument that is featured on Island of Misfit Boys – including the cello, drums, flute, guitar, bass, vocals, organ, synthesizer, banjo, harmonicas, and ukulele – was played and recorded by yours truly; because if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself and I've gotten tired of trying to get other musicians to collaborate with me.

Girl power for life.

credits

released March 6, 2018

Shoutout to my roommates Monica Pierce, Erin Florence, and Adam Pierce, RJ Hale for never once complaining about having to listen to me play the same damn thing over and over and over and over and over and over again, and shoutout to Frank Phelps for writing that tasty bass riff for me in all of thirty seconds (even though you never followed up on it or any other song, but that's okay, man)
And thanks to Chris Smith, Andrew Bacenet, and Dylan Gladstone for reassuring me and giving me advice when I needed it.
